The Program

Latet is Israel’s largest food bank, specializing in recovering unsold food from the agri-food industry. Each year, it redistributes significant quantities of food parcels to a wide network of local organizations, which then deliver them directly to families in need.

For several years, FSJU Israel has supported Latet through an annual grant, reinforced during times of crisis, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic and since October 7th, to address the social emergency.

The joint program “Nutritional Security“, led by Latet and FSJU Israel, provides a concrete response to the widespread poverty in the country.

Furthermore, the youth organization Noar Latet was created to ensure the sustainability of this initiative. It aims to transmit to younger generations the fundamental values of solidarity, civic engagement, volunteering, and social entrepreneurship — essential pillars for building a more just and responsible society.

Objectives

  • Assisting these families is a fundamental aspect of poverty alleviation strategies aimed at breaking the vicious cycles of human underdevelopment.

  • To assist families in great distress and poverty.
  • To meet the primary needs of families, especially children in distress, in order to prevent such humanitarian crises.

  • Young people implement micro-social initiatives within their communities, thereby developing their leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

MOBILIZED FOR ISRAEL | Since the tragic events of October 7, FSJU has worked tirelessly to respond to humanitarian challenges in Israel: Over 100,000 packages sent with our partner לתת Latet

Covid-19:

FSJU Israel assists the elderly

From the beginning of the crisis, FSJU Israel stood alongside LATET, which launched an emergency campaign for the elderly, isolated individuals affected by measures taken to curb the Coronavirus crisis, including people over 70 and Holocaust survivors. Latet formed the largest civil coalition in response to the Coronavirus in Israel, composed of the Ministry of Health, the IDF, and the Ministry of Social Affairs, to confront the unprecedented health and economic crisis the world is facing.
Since the beginning of the crisis, Latet has worked tirelessly to purchase, pack, and distribute 15,000 packages of food and hygiene products to individuals living alone and in poverty.
