On November 4, the Consulate General of France in Tel Aviv and FSJU Israel signed an amendment to the grant agreement, providing FSJU with an additional €75,000, supplementing the €20,000 from the initial agreement signed on June 23.
This grant is part of the emergency plan adopted by the French government at the end of April to support educational, social, and medical assistance for French citizens living abroad. This plan is endowed with €220 million, of which €50 million is allocated to social aid,” explained the Consul General, Florence Mayol-Dupont.
Many French citizens unknown to our services turned to us following the economic damage caused by the Covid-19 crisis,” stated Florence Mayol-Dupont. “Hundreds of families lost their jobs or were forced to close their businesses. In FSJU Israel, we found a recognized, efficient, serious, and committed partner. We are very satisfied with this partnership because it allows us to reach more of our compatriots throughout the country.
Long before the epidemic, Florence Mayol-Dupont had expressed a desire to meet with FSJU Israel, which is ‘directly connected with Israeli society and renowned for its network among populations in need’.
We are honored by this partnership,” commented Myriam Fedida, Director of FSJU Israel, who is delighted to be able to increase the aid provided to the most disadvantaged.
In 2020, the Consulate General of France in Tel Aviv increased its social spending to €581,000, seven times more than in 2019. It was thus able to allocate €250,000 to emergency aid necessitated by the COVID crisis. In total, over 600 French citizens requested assistance, 95% of whom had never previously needed to use consular social services.
Since early March, in parallel and in collaboration with the Consulate, FSJU Israel has processed 105 requests and provided emergency aid to 45 families totaling €25,000. Thanks to the continuation of this partnership, we will continue in 2021 to stay as close as possible to our community.
